Table of Contents
Part 1 deals with computerised accounting by way of a running case study of a fictional wholesale company, Ascot Enterprises, using Sage Sterling for Windows Version 3 and 3.10. The earlier chapters involve setting up the accounts of a new business, posting ledger transactions and the production of a set of Final Accounts. Later chapters cover report generation, invoicing, stock control and order processing. The accounting entries behind the various transactions are described.
Part 2 covers the use of spreadsheets and their application to accounting and finance using Microsoftr Excel version 5. The essential features of worksheet building and formatting are described in the early chapters. This is followed by a description of 3-D facilities leading on to the use of Pivot Tables. The techniques involved in building, sorting, maintaining and filtering a database are also explained, as well as some useful 'tools' and the procedure for transferring data files from Sage to Excel. Accounting-related examples are used throughout with examples where appropriate. The final section contains 20 spreadsheet exercises which can be used to develop students' modelling skills. Solutions for the exercises are given, showing the model itself and the underlying formulae.
